Monday-Thursday: Chilling at "Home"

Sup peeps.

So on Monday we were meant to start at the District Hospital in the surgical ward, but surprise surprise we didn't! African time ;) There was a mix-up or something and we were told that nothing could be done and that the orientation would be in a week and to continue at the orphanage for this week.

We stayed at the apartment with Nadja and I worked on my thesis plan and actually finished it! not sure how good it turned out but hey, it's done! And it's only the plan... Around 2 pm we got a text from the other girls saying they were heading straight to the pool to get some sun. We joined them and that was Monday.

On Tuesday I decided to stay at "home" by myself. just to chill because there is "no point" in me going to the orphanage as I get no credit for it. After work the girls texted me again and I headed for the pool by myself. For the first time here. It's not as bad as we were told! I got asked into bed once and that was that. All you need to do is walk past everyone (like you would in a crowd) and that's that. Nobody followed me, tried to grab me or anything. Everything was just as "safe" as with the other girls.  don't know what all the fuss has been about... Oh well. I wouldn't mind doing it again at some point but maybe not on a regular basis.. I still feel a little better if there's at least someone else with me!

Yummy poached chicken
Yesterday I was ready to do something and wanted to go to the orphanage with the others, but no. I felt nauseous and had a huge headache in the morning! :( So I stayed at home. Again. by myself. This time the girls came straight home because the weather wasn't very sunny. I wouldn't have joined them either way. I didn't feel so good.

I did do the dishes and make the chicken so the whole day wasn't wasted!

Later on we decided to go shopping and I felt good enough to go with. I was sick of staying at home by myself! So we grabbed a tuktuk (6 in one tiny moped-powered thing with a driver and his friend!) and went to Mega City, a "big" shopping centre fairly close by. Fun, fun, fun, buy, buy, buy. Then we took two tuktuks back home because we had so much to carry. Outside the apartments we say a couple walking hand in hand. That in itself is fairly rare, but this was a GAY couple! I've not seen that anywhere here! It was fantastic and I would've taken a picture if I'd dared but I thought I'd be a decent human being and leave them be! It was adorable!

Today I finally made it to the orphanage today and it was a nice change to do something "useful" during the day. I was with the toddlers and we had a blast! They are so adorable and want to explore everything and everywhere (including inside my shirt :D). I read to them a little and sang Itsy Bitsy Spider, Wheels on the Bus and Row Row Row Your Boat as much as I remembered. They seemed to enjoy it. At one time I had three of the older boys on my lap at one time! I didn't get a picture, though. :(

Rich for a minute :D
Today we got home and Mira and I had to go get some money from the bank to pay the rent (45,000 ksh, about 450€, each, for the whole three months) and we took a "students' millions" pic! :D I felt very rich for a moment! Then we had to give all of it away. :(

Our "millions"
The teacher who came with us teacher called Nadja today (I've been the contact person up 'til now) and wanted to talk to Mira because her school had called our teacher today because we have noone to "take care of us" during work practice. nobody's personally responsible, unlike in Finland. Someone has to take responsibility for us, STUDENTS, while we look after patients etc. She sounded pissed off and she wouldn't let Mira get a word in edgeways! She's a little bit like that but she has no right to shout at us students if we have questions and need answers! She sent me angry texts on Sunday because we didn't get her for church (we had no idea she was coming) until I told her straight up to stop wingeing to me!

We almost had a bat come in the house just now! Ewwww! I wish I'd caught it on camera! Six girls screaming their heads off running around the apartment to get away from it! :D

So that's that for now!
